Reyes: We Cannot Survive Without Revolutionary Tax
Hours after presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said the CPP and its political arm, the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP), must stop collecting revolutionary tax, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN), Secretary General Renato Reyes reacted promptly.
Reyes, on Tuesday during a radio interview said that Malacañang’s demand from CPP-NPA-NDF to stop asking revolutionary tax is not possible, and consider the demand “baseless”.
“E papano makakasurvive ang grupo kung ititigil ang revolutionary tax? Saan kukuha ang mga kapatid nating nagsisikap para itaguyod ang karapatang pantao ng pagkain kung ang kabuhayan nila ay ipapatigil ng gobyerno? Walang basehan ang hinihingi ni Sec. Roque”, Reyes said.
Reyes also added that BAYAN party list and other political arm of CPP-NPA will be affected, including himself.
“Hindi tatagal ang ipinaglalaban naming kung ang kabuhayan naming ay ipapatigil ng pamahalaang Duterte. Karamihan sa amin ay walang alam na iba pang trabaho. Hindi naming alam kung ano ang gagawin pag itinigil ang revolutionary tax”, Reyes added.
The termination of revolutionary tax collection is a must according to Roque, in order for the government to consider negiotiating again with the terrorist CPP-NPA group. /Carla Ocampo/
