The legal counsel of NutriAsia on Friday told reporters that three high-profile militant leaders from two different factions tried to negotiate with the company owners but the later rejected them.
NutriAsia, the manufacturer of popular condiment brands like UFC and Papa catsup, Silver Swan soy sauce, Datu Puti, and Mang Tomas said the company is not paying any settlement money to any group that started the chaos.
Atty. Ismael Vallejera, one of NutriAsia’s lawyers said two leaders from Kadamay and one high profile leader of Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) were able to secure a meeting with him on Monday but later revealed their real purpose. They asked ₱2.6 million from the company in exchange for a peaceful rally. Vallejera said he felt disgusted and drove the group away.
The secret meeting was unknown to protesters who have been making a ruckus outside the company for several days.
Vallejera did not name the three officials but hinted that two of them are popular and can be seen in most protests, including the ongoing rally outside the company.
Meanwhile, Kadamay expressed outrage on Thursday after Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III blamed them for starting a scuffle that led to a violent dispersal of workers at a condiments factory in Marilao, Bulacan.
In a statement, Kadamay chairperson Gloria Arellano dared Bello to prove that their members instigated violence at the NutriAsia factory where workers were picketing to protest low wages and poor working conditions.
Arellano claimed that none of their members started “any unruly activity at the picket line” and have consistently supported the fight for the welfare of the NutriAsia workers and to end contractualization.”
“Nung una palang hanggang ngayon, sinisisi ang Kadamay pero wala namang ebidensyang maipakita. Wala naman kaming miyembro na pulis, kasi sa hanay naman ng pulis nagmula ang pambabato,” Arellano said in a statement.
