Imee Marcos to Donate Entire Salary to 263 Badjao College Scholars
Incoming Senator Imee Marcos on Tuesday told students at the
Batangas State University (BSU) that she will be donating her entire salary
during her term to 263 Badjao college students. The school has 65 of these
scholars.
“Kayo ang magiging leader baling araw sa grupo nyo kaya
dapat lang na tulungan kayo ng gobyerno,” Marcos said.

The Senator-elect was invited by the university officials to give a speech
on Tuesday morning.
“Hindi ako makapaniwala na maraming matatalino sa mga
kapatid nating Badjao. Sa tingin ko nagkulang ang gobyerno sa pag aasikaso sa
ating mga kapatid na Badjao,” Marcos added.
The law says senators can be paid around P80k every month
but the late Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago said that lawmakers are
receiving from P200k to 1.5M.
There is a big population of Badjao in Batangas City and
nearby towns especially Sta. Rita, Bauan, and Mabini.
There are some tales that a big ship dumped thousands of
Badjaos before but the story has not been proven true and remains a rumour.
Marcos also said she will visit Badjaos in Mindanao and see
how the government can help the ethnic group.
Badjaos can be found mainly living near or at the sea in
Zamboanga, Sulu, and Tawi Tawi.
