Elago Wants 20% Discount for Student Activists in Private Schools

Kabataan Party List representative and student leader activist Sarah Jane Elago is pushing a bill that would give 20% discount for all student leaders and activists in private schools.

During a weekend interview on Saturday, Elago said that student leaders deserve to be given at least a little recognition for their work to fight suppression.

The young lawmaker said students who are members of the League of Filipino Students (LFS), College Editors Guild of the Philippines (CEGP), and other accredited student organizations must be given 20% discount on tuition fees if they are attending private schools.

Elago, a UP alumna, said that if government cannot give free education to all students, the 20% discount is a good option.

But the lawmaker refused to answer the question when a PTV-4 reporter asked her why only student leaders and activists should be entitled to the 20% discount.

Elago said she will convince other minority lawmakers to help her authoring the bill.
