Fake Catholic Priest Steals ₱250K from Socrates Villegas’ Archdiocese

A man who acted as Catholic priest has stolen more than ₱250,000 cash and other valuable jewelries from Epiphany of Our Lord Parish Church in Lingayen, Pangasinan – the Archdiocese and home of former Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), Chairman Archbishop Socrates Villegas.

In a report by RGil Relator og GMA News, the suspect, identified as Eljune Lumbo, dressed as priest entered the cathedral on Holy Wednesday and told Villegas that he is going to assist the mass.
Villegas, who was not feeling well that time allowed Lumbo to take over the whole mass, a mass christening and two weddings.

Villegas reportedly rested after telling the suspect what to do without confirming his identity.
A churchworker later told Villegas that Lumbo had disappeared pocketing the whole day’s proceeds and other payments, including jewelry worth of more than ₱20,000.

Police has identified the suspect based on description of several witnesses.

Lumbo, a native of Meycauayan, Bulacan has had multiple charges including acting as fake MMDA traffic constable and issuing fake tickets for bribe, fake NBI agent, and fake priest.

Villegas refused to give lengthy comment after saying “bahala na sa kanya ang dyos”.

Meanwhile, some churchgoers blamed Villegas for his carelessness, with some asking him to leave the Archdiocese.
