A day after Martinez surrendered, 29 rebels including 2 high-ranking commanders appeared and signaled they want to surrender to president Rodrigo Duterte personally.

Trinidad said Coquilla, alias Jemar, 21, and a resident of Cabangahan village in Tago, turned himself in, along with nine anti-personnel landmines he had made.

Trinidad said aside from making bombs for the NPA, Coquilla was also the squad leader of Platoon 1 of the NPA’s Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee. “The use of IEDs once again proves the terrorist tag of the CPP-NPA terrorists as it continuously violates the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect to Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CARHRIHL),” .

All 32 rebels are now in the possession of the military together with their firearms and waiting for President Duterte to visit them on Monday. Defense Secretary Delfim Lorenzana said the president is very happy about the news and vowed to tour the group to Malacañang.

He also said he will give jobs to the three high-ranking former rebels, with cash and other incentives to the rest. He is expected to meet the group on Monday.
