Not Contented: Kabataan Party List Wants Free Tuition in Private Schools

Not contented on government’s generosity, Kabataan Party List who represent students questions the Commission on Higher Education why private schools are not included in grants.
The party’s spokesperson Manuela Robles, niece of author and known anti-Marcos Raisa Robles, said students of both public and private schools should enjoy the same benefits.

Robles who is student leader, having been a Deputy Secretary General of  student activist group League of the Filipino Students (FS), condemns the government for being bias and practicing favoritism.

She also said that the free tuition is not a privilege, but a government responsibility so students owe nothing from the government.

“Responsibility ng gobyerno natin na bigyan ng libreng edukasyon ang mga estudyante. Hindi dapat sa public lang. Dapat parehas lahat. Walang mangyayari kung bias ang gobyerno natin”, Robles speaking over Bombo Radyo on Friday.

With P8.3 billion allocated to the Commission on Higher Education, the free education for SUC’s will be the first major achievement of President Rodrigo Duterte and a massive change in Philippine Education System.

The free tuition will start to take effect on the opening of the 2017-2018 School-Year as announced by CHED.

CHED spokesperson Prof. Tomas Agoncillo reacted to Robles’ statement calling the young lady irresponsible.

“These students with lost souls have no satisfaction. They will complain whatever the government is doing for the good of its people”, Agoncillo said.

Robles is taking Accountancy in De La Salle Greenhills, a private school not covered by free tuition.
