Roque: ₱1.2B MRT Budget Spent in 2016 Election Campaign

Presidential spokesperson Secretary Harry Roque on Wednesday revealed that more than  ₱1.2 billion of funds in tended for MRT3 repair were used by previous administration on 2016 election campaign.

The information was revealed by one of the two MRT3 whistleblowers who are in protective custody by the Malacañang.

“Meron po talagang irregularities dun s abudget kung kaya’t dumami ang problema ng ating MRT. Our of almost ₱4 billion na budget, only around ₱2.3 billion lang ang napapunta sa BURI”, Roque said.

The former UP-professor and lawyer-turned presidential speaker also said that major investigation is already ongoing including the filing of criminal and administrative charges against responsible people.

If proven, he also added that the people who benefitied the money will also be held responsible.

The source also revealed that most of the funds were used in Central Luzon and Bicol Regions to help Liberal Party candidates, including Vice President Maria Leonor Robredo, and former DILG Secretary mar Roxas, who ran for president.

Roque said more information will be revealed while the investigation is ongoing.
