Although Mr. Duterte announced that he is pulling the country’s membership from ICC, UN experts said he will still be forced to defend himself if the case progresses if the United Nations require him to do so.

All six lawyers who are expert in crimes against humanity have long record in Africa defending several world leaders before the ICC.

Two Nigerian lawyers who are both working in an international law firm in The Hague, Jacob Ukanda and Mika Wakondo said the case against Duterte is very weak.

The other lawyers who said they are more than willing to represent the Philippines’ strongman are James Berthud and Philippe Watts both from South Africa,  Okande Tutu from Kenya, and Wodi Ambaba from Ghana.
Ambaba has been working with the United Nations and is known close friend and personal lawyer of former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan – who is also from Ghana.

The news about the group’s interest was published last Friday on UN journal and the Ghanian Chronicle.

Malacañang has yet to give official statement about the good news.
