Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., a prominent and respected political figure in the province on Monday, said during a meeting with members of the Association of Barangay Councils (ABC), that he wished Congressman Alejano would withdraw his plan to run for Senate.

“I am a friend of Congressman Alejano’s family and it will break my heart to see him losing in the process”, Marañon said.

Likewise, Vice Governor Izidro Zayco, a native of Kabankalan City and district-mate of Alejano echoed Marañon’s sentiment during a separate meeting with Provincial Board members.

“We already have Congressman Albee Benitez to represent our province. Let’s just pour our support on him. I really wish Gary to just support his fellow lawmaker despite we have different political parties. After all, we are from the same province and speak the same language”, Zayco said.
Congresswoman and Deputy Speaker Mercedez Alvarez, the country’s youngest district representative said Alejano should weigh his options first.
Alvarez is representing the CHICKS (6th) district of Negros Occidental. CHICKS covers the towns of Candoni, Hinobaan, Ilog, Cauayan, and the cities of Kabankalan and Sipalay. Alejano is native of Sipalay and unsuccessfully ran for Mayor before being elected as Party List representative.

Alvarez said the best thing Alejano can do is to run for provincial board member in their district.
