Emeritus CBCP president and archbishop of Lingayen-Pangasinan Socrates Villegas sent a pastoral letter all over the country asking all leaders encourage churchgoers to give more donations to support the fight against human rights.

Villegas calls followed after controversial hashtag #TigilAbuloy peaked on Twitter on Saturday night and stayed on top of Twitter Philippines until Sunday morning.

#TigilAbuloy is also gaining momentum on Facebook and has been the most popular hashtag at the time of this writing.

Reports of low donation started last week after a late survey from De La Salle University was released late last week showing 27% decline in donations.

The Catholic leadership considers the recent outburst from Duterte supporters one of the most challenging crisis the Church has ever faced especially that it hit the Church financially.

The schedule of the meeting has not been revealed but it is believed to happen early this week.

Meanwhile, top leaders of CBCP including CBCP president Archbishop Romulo Valles are seeking the audience with President Rodrigo Duterte to discuss the worsening relationship between the palace and the Church.
