Just In! ACT-Teachers, Gabriela Clashes over Missing ₱5.68M Sona Rally Budget

Two high-ranking militant groups on Thursday pointing fingers at each other after protesters during the State of the Nation Address (Sona) were left unpaid.

More than 600 protesters gathered outside Liberal Party headquarters in Quezon City on Thursday asking for compensation blaming their organizers for failing to fulfill their promise.

Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) leader Manuel Untalan said there was a ₱15.67 million budget for the protest but only ₱9.99 million were distributed to the head organizers. Untalan refused to comment on where the money had gone.

Meanwhile, ACT-Teachers and Gabriela leaders engaged in a heated argument during the coalition’s assembly at BAYAN headquarters on Thursday.

ACT chief organizer Ronalda Palabrica blamed Gabriela’s Rodrigo Fruelda of carelessly distributing the fund to non-registered groups from outside Metro Manila.

The assembly was supposed to be hidden from the media due to the nature of the topic but several organizers who were not paid has enough and told reporters after the meeting.

None of the high-ranking leaders give official comment to the media but Bayan’s Secretary General Renato Reyes Jr. said he will explain everything when the issue is settled. He was not present during the meeting.

It was not clear where the majority of the money went to but several sources said at least ₱1.8 million were given to ghost protesters under Gabriela’s local arms.
