Bagaporo, who runs an event coordinating and catering business in Pangasinan, said that the sudden increase has a big impact on her business.

“We are processing like seven to 12 baptisms and at least three weddings every week and this is like losing ₱1,800 to ₱2,500 on the process. I have to reduce manpower in order to cope up. The sudden increase is outrageous”, Bagaporo said.

The businesswoman said the church official from the Archdiocese of former Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) President Socrates Villegas, told her on Wednesday that the Church’s service charges have increased due to train law.

“Sabi nya matagal na rind aw na hindi sila nag-iincrease kaya wag na daw magulat kung bakit giglaan ang pagtaas ng service charges. Yong kasal tumaas din ng ₱250. Yong misa sa patay ₱150. Yong pinakamahal sa lahat eh yong special out of town special mass. Kung dati sumisingil sila ng ₱3,500, ngayon ₱5k na”, Bagaporo added.

The businesswoman refused to give the name of the official but told reporters to get the side of the church instead.

The service charge listed inside the church as of press time remains the same but at least two church employees on Thursday said they indeed increased the charges.

The church, especially Archbishop Socrates Villegas has yet to give an official comment.
It is also reported that the Parish of the Holy Sacrifice in Novaliches, Our Lady of Hope Parish Church in Bagong Pag-asa QC, and Our Lady of Fatima Church also in Quezon City have increased their service fees as well.

The sudden increase of rates shocked everyone who deals with the church regularly especially people with businesses like Miss. Bagaporo.
