Contrary to what his critics said about his father selling Sabah to Malaysia, former President Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III defended his father, former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr.
“Hindi siguro naalala ng karamihan sa mga Pilipino na ang aking ama, mula pa noong unang sumali sa pulitiko ay dinepensahan na ang teritoryo ng Pilipinas hindi lang ang West Philippine Sea kundi maging ang Sabah”, Aquino addressed local reporters on Wednesday.
The former president belittled Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano’s conduct with China, telling the country’s top diplomat that his politics should be as “transparent as his hairstyle.”
Aquino’s comments were the latest in a word war between the two former party mates who disagree over Cayetano’s handling of the West Philippine Sea (WPS) dispute.
On Tuesday, Cayetano challenged Aquino to ask Albert del Rosario, his former foreign affairs secretary: “Were you transparent with me?” Aquino fired back: “He and I have a transparent hairstyle.
Hopefully his politics, too, could be transparent. I’m not insulting him, his hair is thicker than mine.”
Aquino also questioned the government’s proposed 60-40 sharing agreement with China for natural resources in the West Philippine Sea. “We have no obligation to share with [China],” Aquino said
When asked why his father was accused of selling Sabah to Malaysia, Aquino refused to give a direct answer and instead said that his father was the number one protector of the long been disputed territory.
“Eh kung pinabayaan ng tatay ko yong Sabah eh di sana pati Sulu o kaya Palawan pag-aari na ng Malaysia di ba? Walang katotohanan ang mga pagbibintang nay an. Kung hindi dahil sa tatay ko, baka buong Mindanao naagaw na ng Malaysia”, he said.
