Manalo – Religion is the Most Profitable Business

Amid the hot issue looming over the Kapa Ministry, many economists and financial analysts are revisiting the religious business here in the Philippines.

Kapa, a religious group founded in Mindanao is currently in hot water over its investment scam practice that involves more than 30 billion pesos from hundreds of thousands if not millions of investors from Mindanao and Visayas. It was also reported that some political figures benefited through its investment scheme during the campaign period.

UP Economic and Social Science Professor Lamberta Manalo told reporters on Monday during the 54th KBP Annual Conference.

Manalo said that based on statistics, the Catholic Church alone has more than 27 billion Pesos in non-moving assets and another 4 billion Pesos in stocks.

“I think INC has almost the same worth kung ang pagbabasehan natin ay yong sinabi ng mga ministro nila noong nagdaang 2014,” Manalo added.

She also said that no religious founder is suffering in poverty.

“Makikita naman natin kung ano sila Quiboloy, Eli Soriano, Brother Mike, and even Jesus is Lord founder Eddie Villanueva. Lahat sila milyonaryo,” Manalo added.

FEU professor Mike Salamanca added that religion is one of the biggest reasons why the Philippines is in poverty.

Indirectly, nag co-contribute sya ng pagiging hindi productive as a whole, not to mention ang loses sa pamasahe at abuloy,” Salamanca said.

The professor also added that the Catholic Church fortune is one of the biggest scams in the Philippines as well as the wealth of other religious groups like INC, El Shaddai, and others.

“Karamihan sa nabubuyo sa mga ganitong relihiyon mahihirap kasi yan ang tinitingnan nilang pag-asa without knowing na niloloko lang sila,” Salamanca said.
