Nowhere to Hide: DFA Suspends Ex-Iloilo Mayor Jed Mabilog’s Passport

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Monday said it permanently suspended ex-Iloilo City Mayor Jet Patrick Mabilog’s Philippine passport after months of repeated request for him to go home and face the charges filed against him.

Mabilog, who said went to Japan last year for medical examinations, has been denying request by the Philippine government to go home. Mabilog is believed to be hiding in Thailand.

“Siguro naman ngayon mapipilitan na talaga siyang umuwi dahil na kansela na natin yong passport niya at ng dalawa pa niyang alalay. He have no where to hide and no place to run”, DFA spkoesman Atty Miguel Calvario told reporters on Monday.

President Duterte has repeatedly accused Mabilog of being a narco-politician.

The President earlier claimed that Mabilog “fled” to Japan where he is living a “luxurious life”.
But a source earlier confirmed to the INQUIRER that Mabilog’s wife Marivic and their two children left the country due to security concerns.

The source said there were reports of tangible threats against the mayor which prompted his wife to leave the country with their children.

The President has repeatedly and publicly accused Mabilog of being a drug protector, an allegation that the mayor has repeatedly denied.
