AFP Bars Trillanes from Entering Camp Aguinaldo to Hold Press Conference

The Armed Forces of the Philippines on Wednesday barred Sen. Antonio Trillanes from entering Camp Aguinaldo to hold a press conference.

Upon hearing that Trillanes plans to hold a press conference inside the camp on Thursday at the AFP Commissioned Officers Club, APF spokesman Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla said, “No, that is not allowed”.

“The AFP strictly maintains its non partisan role and will stick to its primary mandate of ensuring the security and order of the country,” Padilla said.

“We are quite sure that the senator knows this.”

Padilla appealed to “all parties to please respect the non-partisan role of the Armed Forces.”

Trillanes, a former Navy officer who led at least two coup attempts during the Arroyo administration, will instead hold the press conference at Max’s Restaurant on Scout Tuazon in Quezon City, according to the latest advisory from his office.

Trillanes said earlier that a coup d’etat is eminent if Duterte will continue his war on drugs, because the military will be divided. Senior military officials denied Trillanes’ claim, and warned the senator from making a fuss and brainwashing active soldiers.

“He lost his credibility and honor after the Oakwood Mutiny. He has no influence in our military”, a colonel of AFP said.

The AFP also warned the senator from using his military background in his personal interests.
