On Monday, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) announced that the South Korean government is hiring OFWs who don’t want to return to Kuwait.

In a statement released to the media, POEA acting administrator Bernard Olalia said that he met with South Korean Ambassador Kim Jae-shin on Friday to discuss the serious matter, and the latter offered “beautiful solution”.

“Our South Korean friends are badly offended by the problems faced by our OFWs in Kuwait. South Korea is in constant need to thousands of caregivers and nanny and they saw this as good opportunity for them to hire experienced and dedicated people,” Olalia said.

The offer however is specific only to those OFWs from Kuwait as they need jobs immediately.
POEA added that all repatriated OFWs will receive letter of instruction on how to process their application. They will also undergo three-week language training that will be sponsored by the South Korean government.

According to the POEA official who is familiar with the deal, the salary  Filipino domestic helpers, caregivers, and nannies in South Korea almost double compared to the average salary in Kuwait, with far better working environment.

South Korea has long been in need of domestic helpers but because of strict requirements, OFWs prefer Middle East mostly through tourist visa.

The deal also applicable to OFWs from other countries who are victims of abuse by their employers.
Interested applicants are advised to contact POEA though hotlines 722-11-44 / 722-11-55 for further details.
