Filipinos in Canada to Boycott Robredo’s March 23 Toronto Visit
The Filipino Canada Council (FCC), head organization of 23 Filipino-Canadian organizations, stated that they would stage protest against Robredo’s entry, and will boycott the Vice President’s presence if in case she successfully lands in Canada.
On Monday, FCC Secretary General Arthur Mills said some 500 Filipino-Canadians, and OFWs, want Vice President Leni Robredo impeached because of the video message she delivered before the UN last year that allegedly led their employers to harass them in their workplaces.
Most of the complaining OFWs, he added, are working at health care facilities.
In the video message, Robredo claimed Filipinos have become “hopeless and helpless” against the killings, among other opinions she raised on President Duterte’s war against illegal drugs.
Mills added that Robredo’s comment resulted to the loss of jobs of eight Filipino-Canadians in Alberta.
Robredo and some members past Aquino administration are schedule to Visit Toronto on May 23 to 27 to meet Filipino-Canadians, and to attend Filipino Women’s Conference, but Mills said the Vice President may find herself disappointed if no one will attend to welcome her.
Robredo lost to Marcos in Canada, and in the overall Overseas Filipino Workers votes.
Mills said that of 660,000 Filipinos living in Canada, more than 400,000 are connected to their various organizations.
Mills added that his group will file a petition to the Canadian court barring Robredo’s entry to the country.
