Medical Experts Scrumbles as Ash Wednesday Victims Suffer Extremely Contagious Skin Disease

At least six of the Ash Wednesday victims whose foreheads were burned were brought to three different hospital in the last 2 days after infections affecting other areas of their faces.

Two days after being exposed with highly-acidic ash on Wednesday, 27-year old Melanie Ursula of Taguig City said she tried different skin ointments but the infection is only getting bigger, affecting most of her face. She went to Taguig District hospital yesterday and after 2 hours of tests, she was transferred to Philippine General Hospital for further laboratory check-up.

Another victim of reported the same complaint from Batasan Hills Quezon City was Luzviminda Camacho who was brought to Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City after infections cover her neck and upper face.

On Saturday, experts at PGH are still clueless about the disease which they considered highly contagious after one of the patient's daughter was infected.

As of press time, there are a total of five patients recorded to have been brought to different hospitals, including a 13-year old boy from Batangas City.

The Diocese of Caloocan City where the ash was marked on devotees’ foreheads is still investigating the mysterious incident.

Doctors have yet to determine the type of virus that inflicting the patients and said they are expecting more victims to come forward in the next couple of days.

Authorities also call on all people who have contact with the ash to go to hospital immediately if they feel the same symptoms.
