Thirty-year old Aika Robredo, a graduate of Ateneo de Manila University, is currently enrolled at Harvard University Graduate School under student visa.

The report says VP Robredo applied for a permanent residency for her daughter last February 2017 when Aika was admitted to Harvard.

United States lawful permanent residency, informally known as green card, is the immigration status of a person authorized to live and work in the United States of America permanently.

Green cards are valid for 10 years for permanent residents, and 2 years for conditional permanent residents. After this period, the card must be renewed or replaced.

The application process may take several years. An immigrant usually has to go through a three-step process to get permanent residency that includes petition and processing.

The report also said  the Bureau did not find any solid reasons why Ms. Robredo should be given permanent residency when in fact she is going to return to the Philippines when she finish her Master’s Degree.

An unnamed Filipino-American immigration lawyer said Ms. Robredo’s only chance is to marry an American, but since she already applied and failed, it will be very difficult.

Ms. Robredo refused to answer why she needed a US permanent residency.
