Catholic Priest Arrested for Selling Abortion Pills and Installing CCTV on Women’s Room
A Roman Catholic priest was nabbed in Sta. Cruz, Manila for allegedly selling pills that supposedly induce abortion.
A Balitanghali report by Oscar Oida on Sunday identified the suspect as Father Ysrael Bien from Naga City.
Authorities were conducting clearing operations against illegal vendors in Carriedo Street when they caught Bien selling the prohibited pills.
"Natuklasan namin na itong si Ysrael isa sa mga nagpapakalat ng abortion pills dito sa Maynila. Ito ay matagal nang nasa watch list natin lalo pa’t may pending syang kaso sa Naga City." Police Chief Inspector Leandro Gutierrez of the Plaza Miranda police said.
Seized from the suspect were pills worth more than P40,000.
Bien has pending charges of personal invasion of privacy, tampering with physical evidence, and initiating a false police report.
The Bicolano priest is accused of installing a hidden camera within the wall socket of a women’s room in his Church in Naga City.
According to authorities, a 16-year-old girl discovered that hidden camera and she brought it to Bien, but the latter kept the camera and told the girl not to tell anyone. The girl told her parents who later reported to Naga Police.
Police eventually discovered a receipt showing a spy camera purchased under Bien’s name.
Bien is an active Catholic priest at the time of his arrest.
