China Unveils Arm Statue Honoring Pres. Duterte in Shanghai
A group of Chinese scholars in Shanghai in association with Rotary China has honored Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte with unique recognition – Duterte’s trademark arm with clinched fist.
Duterte, who is currently in China for a multiple day visit to meet China’s strongman Xi Jin Ping, was reportedly humbled by the honor.
The statue, which is found inside the Guyi Garden in Shanghai, was built from December 2017 to February 2018, and has been unveiled on Monday. Duterte was the guest speaker of the event which was attended by more than 240 Chinese scholars.
Piu Pilho, the chairman of Rotary China – Shanghai Chapter, said that the statue was built to honor Pres. Duterte as the Chinese people believe that he (Duterte) bridged the gap between the two governments.
Guyi Garden is a famous people’s park in Shanghai.
Duterte was not informed about the statue and was surprised by the unexpected event.
