Alejano visited the Ebola-infested Central African country last week for a 5-day international human rights summit.

Caponpon said his office already informed the lawmaker in advance after news broke out that as of this writing, 35 Congolese natives have died due to Ebola virus

“This is for the country’s whole security and the congressman understands that so he had no objection”, Caponpon said.

The Democratic Republic of Congo now has 35 confirmed Ebola cases.

Health workers have identified people who have been in contact with confirmed Ebola cases in three areas in Equateur province, the rural areas of Bikoro and Iboko, and Mbandaka, the provincial capital of 1.2 million that is a transport hub on the Congo River.

Although Alejano and his 3 aides are unlikely to have been infected, Caponpon said there is still a possibility that at least one of them have been in contact with the infected person while in Kinshasa so proper procedure must be done strictly.

Alejano is the very first high-profile public official to undergo serious quarantine due to Ebola virus.
