On Thursday, sheriffs employed by a local rural bank to secure a foreclosed property in Brgy. Sto. Niño (106-A), near GMA Kapuso Village, reported to local authorities that the foreclosed warehouse contains suspected relief goods.

Members of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and Tacloban City police stormed the area and found at least 23 tons of rotting goods, mostly bottles water, medicines, blankets, beds, and others.

DSWD official Mely Salvador estimated the wasted goods to be worth around 30 to 50 million pesos.
Mr. Duterte on Monday ordered local authorities to conduct investigation why the goods intended for the people handed over to private individuals.

The property was owned by a local businessman Mario Banaag, who owns several business establishments in Tacloban, but refused to comment about the recent findings. The property was foreclosed by a local rural bank after Banaag missed to pay his loans.

“Yang mga supply n asana ay napunta sa mga biktima ng Yolanda at pinagkitaan ng mga p*tang ina. Laht ng dating opisyal ng DSWD na naka-upo noon ay gusto kong paimbestigahan kung paano napunta dun ang mga donations”, Duterte told Malacañang employees during the Monday flag ceremony.

The previous administration of former Pres. Benigno Aquino III has been criticized for mishandling of Yolanda funds and donations, and Aquino himself is facing several legal complaints on the matter.
This is not the first time that Yolanda relief goods were found inside an unknown warehouse.

“So far, this is the biggest and we don’t know if there’s more somewhere out there,” Salvador said.
None of the consumable goods is safe to consume except for beds and blankets, which were taken to DSWD warehouse for proper distribution.
