Bam Aquino: Our Family is the Foundation of This Country’s Democracy
Defending his cousin Kris Aquino from the earlier attack of the defiant Mocha Uson, Senator Bam Aquino on Wednesday let his emotions go during a speech in front of University of Perpetual Help students.
Aquino was a guest speaker in this year’s class opening at the Las Piñas University, which was also attended by the school’s board of directors.
In his 20-minute speech, Aquino lamented on the achievement of the late Senator Benigno Aquino Jr., and his wife, the late President Corazon Aquino. Benigno was Bam’s uncle and Kris Aquino’s father.
“This country has been enjoying the freedom of democracy for more than three decades yet there are still people who disregard the truth instead try to destroy the integrity of the Filipino people. People like Mocha Uson don’t know what democracy is and how the Filipino people have achieved it.
Insulting the father of democracy is insulting the Filipino people”, Aquino said.
Aquino also added that Mocha failed to realize that his cousin Kris was one of the top taxpayers, and has been the top taxpayers in 2016 while not being a businesswoman.
“I want to remind Miss Uson that my cousin is one of those people who is paying for her salary while berating our family. Kris paid more than P40 million in 2016 topping all richest people in this country. She paid taxes from her own pocket, from her own sweat, and not because she has some business. Ms. Uson is enjoying that now”, Aquino added.
Aquino defended his speech as non-political and an attempt to protect democracy which his family had started.
“Ms. Uson may not respect our family but the fact remains that the Aquino family is the foundation of this country’s democracy – a democracy which Ms. Uson is enjoying right now”, Aquino said.
