Bishop Conrado Nolasco, Finance Secretary of CBCP, together with 2 priests, landed on Israel on Saturday morning and expected to return to the Philippines on Wednesday. The group also includes 2 retired army officials who are gun experts according to the source.

The source said the CBCP is planning to arm its more than 13,000 priests and officials following the series of killings.

“They are looking to purchase IWI Jericho 94i from Israel. This is the suggested firearm by their army consultants in addition to Colt Defender that some bishops already owned”, the source said
At an estimated cost of $490 per piece, the CBCP is looking to pay $5.8 million (₱314-M) for the total gun deal if the sale is approved by the Israeli government.

The deal would be the biggest non-government deal by Jericho's arms according to the source.
The CBCP has billions of assets and this could not be a major budget problem according to the available financial data online.

Meanwhile, some priests in Laguna are secretly acquiring firearms for protection against would-be assassins following the cold-blooded killings of three clergymen and the frustrated murder of a fourth in a span of just six months.

The bloody attacks caused “chills in our spines,” several priests in Calamba City said.
“And the PNP (Philippine National Police) leadership saying ‘there is no cause for alarm’ is in itself more alarming,” one of them said, referring to a recent statement by PNP Director General Oscar Albayalde.

The priests spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons.

On Friday, thousands of mourners joined the funeral march for Fr. Richmond Nilo, 44, who was gunned down as he prepared for a Mass on June 10 in Zaragoza town, in Nueva Ecija province — the third priest killed since December.
