Duterte to Release Lists of Catholic Priests and Bishops Doing Immorality

The Catholic Bishop Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), reportedly scrambled after news that President Rodrigo Duterte threatened to release the names of Catholic priests and bishops doing immorality to the public.

Veteran journalist and TV newscaster Jay Sonza said CBCP officials are asking for an urgent dialogue with the president after the “greatly disturbing news”.

According to Sonza’s Facebook post, Duterte said he will release all information including the names Catholic officials who are doing immorality by having secret families.

This, according to Sonza, is not limited to divulging the names of nuns who have children, nuns who have an intimate relationship with priests, live-in partners, children, and other family formed through immorality.

Duterte is allegedly in possession of more than 3,400 names out of estimated 12,350 priests and bishops, and at least 7,000 nuns.

The president’s threat is reportedly followed after the Church tied the government into the recent murder of three Catholic officials.

It is not clear whether Duterte was serious or not but considering that reaction of the CBCP, Sonza’s information could be legit.

Duterte’s threats could be a massive problem for the Church that has been on the issue of immorality, abuse cases, and some financial scandals considering its massive investments in private and even publicly-owned companies.
