Jinggoy: Plunder is not Robbery, I’m Not a Thief

Jinggoy Estrada, the son of plunderer who is also a plunderer himself, reiterated on Monday that plunder is different from robbery and that he should not be called a thief.

His absurd statement follows after Associate Justice Rafael Lagos, of the antigraft court’s fifth division, warned Estrada he would be cited in contempt for his behavior.

Estrada was scolded by the Sandiganbayan on Monday for uttering the word “gago,” while pork barrel scam whistleblower Benhur Luy was on the witness stand testifying against Estrada.
“I’m sorry, sir,” Estrada said, following the justice’s warning.

Lagos was one of two justices who dissented in the Sandiganbayan’s Sept. 15, 2017 decision, allowing Estrada to post bail.

Estrada uttered the word “gago” while his lawyer, Paul Mar Arias, was cross-examining Luy.
“As far as I’m concerned, Janet Napoles just told me that Senator Jinggoy received [the kickback],” Luy said on cross-examination.

Talking to the reporters after the hearing, Estrada said he should not be considered a thief because he did not rob anyone or stole anything from anyone.

But when Inquirer reporter Judy Magno asked Estrada what plunder means to him, Estrada said: “Para sa akin po ay hindi yan pagnanakaw, at unfair naman po siguro na pagbintangan tayong nagnakaw ay hindi naman tayo nagnakaw.”

Estrada is among the lawmakers involved in the controversial Pork Barrel Scam.
