Breaking News: Nepal, Vietnam, 14 other Countries Files Protest to Miss Universe Against the Philippines

The Miss Universe Organization is in hot water and may consider undergoing a major policy overhaul on contestants qualifications after at least sixteen countries filed a protest against the Philippines almost a week after Filipino-Australian Catriona Gray took home the coveted crown.
Eight of the sixteen petitioner countries are from Asia and said the same thing – that Miss Universe should ban half-blooded contestants because it gives a considerable advantage to any participating country, especially the Philippines which have won two titles in five years using half-Filipina contestants.

On 2015, Filipino-German Pia Wurtzbach won the same crown for the Philippines.
“We want to bring the pureness of Mongolia in front of the world to see and this can only be achieved by one of our own pure-blooded contestants. It is an unfair disadvantage for us if other country uses half-breed and half-native contestants. The essence of Miss Universe will be tainted with uncertainty soon if we continue this unfair practice,” a letter from Mongolia was shared by the organization to the media on Friday.

Vietnam, whose contestant ended-up on top 5 said almost the same in a letter.
Meanwhile, Indonesia's complaint said the Philippines is the only Asian country to use half-blood contestant.

“We really think this is an insult not only to the organization but to the whole Asian region. The Philippines is the only Asian country to use half-Filipina contestant in the last five years. There is no law that has been violated but it is ethically unacceptable”, Indonesia said.
The list of petitioning countries are as follows and expected to increase.
  1. Thailand
  2. Vietnam
  3. Nepal
  4. Indonesia
  5. South Korea
  6. Poland
  7. Barbados
  8. Costa Rica
  9. Jamaica
  10. Belgium
  11. Egypt
  12. Haiti
  13. Honduras
  14. Lao
  15. Mongolia
  16. Myanmar
The Miss Universe Organization reassures the Philippines and Miss Gray that she will not lose the crown but there is a big possibility that half-blooded and half-breed contestants may not be allowed in the future.

“We are looking into this kind of possibilities and we respect all country-members. If there are multiple complains then we have to take action. No final decision has been made so far,” Miss Universe chairwoman Paula Shugart told German media on Friday.

She added that the Miss Universe Philippines organization has been informed already.

  1. So transgenders are allowed but half bloods that are 100% women will not be allowed! It doesn’t make sense to me. Don’t get me wrong, I am not against transgender entering the pageant but that is so racist to half bloods just because their parents come from different countries. Its not like they can choose their parents.
